ROUTE SETTERS
Follow our setting schedule on Twitter! Not sure where the Alcove or Micky's Corner are? Check out our dedicated wall maps for Belmont, San Francisco and Sunnyvale!
Ever wonder who puts up those awesome routes in the gym? Or who's crazy initials are on your favorite (or shake your fists at because it stumped you) climb? Planet Granite has an awesome team of route setters who work hard to keep the routes in our gyms looking and climbing great. Working full time, our route setters travel to each gym on different days, strip (take down the holds) a section of the wall, clean the holds, re-set new ones, and if that's not enough, then climb and grade each one. Sounds exhausting, right? Next time you're in the gym and you see one of our setters, be sure to give them the appreciative nod.
We re-set our routes and boulder problems in our gyms every 10 weeks so there are always fresh problems for you to try. Please give us feedback in our suggestion box. We like to know which routes you liked and didn't and why.

Moses - MP around the globe and continues to inspire his route setting. In addition to setting, Moses puts his California Teaching Credential to use as an instructor at PG, teaching lead, 201, and private lessons. When not at PG he can often be found outdoors somewhere experiencing the vertical world, searching for new moves to replicate indoors at PG. |

Art - art Art has been route setting for roughly 6
years, and has been rock climbing for 7.
Most people would probably call him a
boulderer, though he enjoys clipping
draws from time to time as well. When he's
not able to make a trip out to his favorite
climbing destination, Bishop, CA, he likes |

Mike was introduced to route setting at the old Planet Granite location in Santa Clara 6 years ago. Since then he's been setting routes around the bay area refining his skills. Mike has been climbing for 8 years, starting first as a sport climber and then transitioning into competition climbing and bouldering. He's now a full time student in the south bay and juggles setting, school, and climbing. He calls the Eastside a second home and will go great lengths to sneak a weekend outside. When Mike's not climbing or studying you can probably find him coaching the PG Youth Climbing Team, trying to beat Art's highest scores on Wii, or pretending he can still sport climb. |

Shane- SR Shane's been around PG since '02. He helped design and build the Sunnyvale and San Francisco gyms, as well as the Belmont bouldering re-model. As construction manager for PG he spends most of his time on building projects, but lately he quit talking trash and started setting with the crew. When he's not setting-routes or working on future gym projects, he's probably out thrutching his way up some pebble. |

Lucho - lucho Lucho is a San Francisco native, born and raised. After graduating from an art school in San Francisco he felt the need to continue to express his creative side and spent a decade living in and out of Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. After being taken under the wing of some of Yosemite's great climbers he found his niche in climbing first ascents and exploration. He's always looking for the unclimbed lines whether it be at one of Planet Granite's climbing gyms or the Sierra Nevada his true passion lies in the creation of routes. |

Danny - DH Danny started climbing in 2002 when Planet Granite Belmont opened up a couple blocks from his house. He’s been hooked ever since. He likes to boulder most of the time, but occasionally will get on a rope. He’s also into riding his dirt bike and making it rain whenever possible, that's just how he rolls. |

Mike A - Mike A Mike was introduced to rock climbing by the great Bill Price in 1969. They both started climbing at rattle snake rock and castle rock. He soon found himself in Yosemite’s dirt of camp 4. From there it has been nothing but down hill, just kidding :-) . After high school, he moved to Yosemite Valley and got a job cooking at the Mt. Boiler Room, and the Ahwahnee. He lived in the valley during the golden age of climbing, and even got to experience the air plane crash :-) After a couple years of big fun in the valley, He got married and moved back to the bay area to got a real job, and go back to school, :-( . Even with 5 kids and being a single parent he’s keeping the climbing dream alive. Mike helped with the Castle Rock State Park guide book, and the climber’s general plan for Castle Rock as well. He helped to build twisters climbing gym, one of the first climbing gym's in the bay area. Mike has been setting routes at PG for 9 years now and has put up several routes in the sierra. Mike has red pointed 5.12 and just finished writing two guide books to Fresno Dome, and Shuteye Ridge. Mike loves climbing at Jailhouse, The Gorge, Courtright, Shuteye Ridge, Fresno Dome, The Spires, Calaveras Dome, Grotto Area, The Pinnacles, PG, and bouldering at Castle Rock. |
