This year’s 8th Annual Climb-a-thon will be on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at Planet Granite in Sunnyvale. Let’s raise funds for Stacey and celebrate our love of climbing by together climbing the entire height of Mt. Everest: 29, 035 feet! You may register as late as Sunday at 12:30 pm. The climbing will be from 1 pm to 4 pm.
In August of 2003, Stacey was diagnosed with a rare lung disease called LAM: lymphangioleiomyomatosis. This disease is progressive and fatal. The only treatment is a lung transplant. At the time, Stacey had been managing the Twisters Climbing gym, coaching the youth team, climbing competitively, and leading outdoor climbing trips. Her enthusiasm and generosity were cherished all over the Bay Area. Her illness, though, quickly forced her to rely on oxygen tanks and a wheel chair while she waited for a lung transplant.
On November 22, 2004, Stacey received new lungs at the Stanford Medical Center. The operation and the complex care that a transplant patient needs afterwards have been very expensive.
Latest news: On Jan. 6th, 2011, Stacey will be undergoing a minor surgery for complications from the transplant that have been going on for six years. She will be in the hospital for two days, then recover for a few weeks before she starts her job as the head coach of the Carlmont High School Badminton Team on January 31st.
This Climb-a-thon marks Stacey’s Sixth Anniversary of her transplant. She has beaten the odds! Only fifty percent of lung transplant patients survive their first five years. Let’s congratualate Stacey on her achievement, raise money to pay the medical bills, and enjoy a fantastic climbing challenge! Are you ready to summit Mt. Everest?
