Attention climbers! We’re sharing a recall alert for Black Diamond products. The company is voluntarily recalling some carabiners including quickdraws, and also a recall for some nylon runners/slings.

There haven’t been accidents reported with the products in question, but the company is asking retailers and customers to inspect their products for defects.

Please inspect your Black Diamond gear, as seen above, and using the guidelines below.  Then contact Black Diamond directly to exchange gear.

Climbing Business Journal reports this word from the company:

“In some carabiners, the gate rivets (in solid gate carabiners) and wire ends (in wiregate carabiners) attaching the gate to the carabiner body may not be properly manufactured, potentially resulting in the gate becoming detached. Additionally, in some screwgate carabiners, the locking sleeve may not have been correctly assembled, resulting in a locking carabiner that does not lock properly. The recall related to the nylon runners is due to a small number found to contain a tape slice, resulting in a product that is not load bearing and will fail under standard use.”

Below are all of the notices and FAQs with all the information you need to check your gear and spread the word.

Carabiners

WHAT HAPPENED?
During a routine inspection of product on our manufacturing floor in Salt Lake City, we discovered a carabiner with an incomplete gate rivet. We immediately stopped production and delivery of all affected carabiners and issued a recall.

WHAT IS BLACK DIAMOND DOING?
We have determined the scope of potentially affected units and issued a recall, subject to inspection, of all carabiners potentially affected by the issues we discovered.
Further, we have undertaken a complete review of our carabiner inspection process to ensure that individual testing of carabiners is properly implemented. For added security, products that have gone through this more rigorous testing process have been labeled with a green sticker. All product shipped after the date of this recall will have a green sticker.
