Fitness Classes

F10 Fitness

F10 Fitness not only adapts and develops exercises to improve participants’ overall fitness, but physically and mentally challenges participants above and beyond their initial capabilities.
This is an all inclusive fitness program designed for individuals to challenge themselves and push each other. It enhances physical strength, reduces weaknesses, builds community through team cohesion and also supports and encourages new participants with limited experience and confidence. F10 Fitness classes include skills in gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting and cardio or metabolic conditioning sports. The workouts are conducted in varied methods and times to keep the participant enhancing their general physical preparedness (GPP) and overall fitness.

Core Galore

Whether it’s with a yoga ball, med ball, dynamax ball, the half bosu ball, or your own body weight participants will reap the benefits of this CORE GALORE class. We consider your abs, low back, hips and glutes your core, so don’t be fooled: dynamic total body bursts coupled with focused stability/strength movements make this an excellent cross training addition to anyone’s fitness program. This will be a class you LOVE to hate. All levels welcome

HIIT30

Planet Granite is excited to launch a 30 minute high intensity interval training class (HIIT30)! The goal is to get you sweating and finished with your workout so you can get climbing or get outside and enjoy the awesome summer weather. HIIT classes will involve total body movements performed at intervals. Strength, power, flexibility and posture exercises will be addressed in this class to help you create a solid base of fitness or improve your current fitness level. HIIT is instructed by a personal trainer dedicated to helping you be your best. Come see how to make the most of 30 minutes!

Total Body Fitness

Inspired by the 4Ps of the TEAM Fitness method (Posture, Power, Performance and PLAY) this class blends these 4 components of fitness into a total body circuit training class GREAT for all levels, but specifically useful and tailored to someone just beginning a cross training program. In this class you will learn correct form on a variety of movements and this class is geared towards creating a super foundation for our F-10 classes. The posture exercises will lengthen and strengthen the muscles, power/strength moves will make your body strong, speed and agility patterns keep things creative and interesting! All levels welcome.

20-20-20

20-20-20 is broken into 3 different sections. 20 minutes of heart pumping cardio vascular intervals such as running*, stairs, spin, rower or body weight exercises, 20 minutes of strength training, and 20 minutes of dynamic flexibility, balance, and mobility work. You truly get the best of ALL worlds with 20 20 20. Come check it out! All levels welcome.

Lifting Fundamentals

This class focuses on teaching athletes the fundamental movements required in the event of Olympic Weightlifting. Focusing on the two movements, the clean & jerk and the snatch, this class will teach you how to move heavy loads from the ground to overhead. The movements require finesse and power! If you’re completely new to lifting weights and using a barbell, this is the class for you!

For climbers
These classes are designed for increased overall fitness, enhancing the physical and mental strengths that are necessary to support climbing training. Climbers can expect to strengthen and build on endurance and explosive power, which will translate to movement on the wall.

Alayne has been in the fitness industry working as a group fitness instructor and Personal Trainer for the past 12 years.

Alayne loves to bring people together and to inspire them to be their best in health and wellness, but also outside of the gym. As a competitive gymnast and diver Alayne has been active most of her life. She now loves trail running, hiking, backpacking, bouldering, mountain biking and ultimate frisbee. She loves to bring a creative and athletic experience to her classes.
Alayne is certified with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She also has certifications with the following continued education establishments: Egoscue Level 1 Posture and Pain, Gary Gray Applied Functional Science, Tina Vindum’s Outdoor Action Fitness, TRX Fitness Anywhere, Les Mills RPM and Body Flow, Cross Fit level 1, Paul Chek Scientific Core and is a CHEK Level 1 nutrition and lifestyle coach. Recently she completed her 200 hr. yoga teaching certification by finished both level and level 2 teacher training programs with the Baron Baptiste Power Yoga Institute.

No matter what your goals, ability or current physical state, Alayne will listen, care and create a program that is real, attainable and perfectly suited for you blending all that she has learned. She brings this individualized approach into the group setting at Planet Granite as well. Having experienced a variety of injuries and had countless doctors, physical therapists and massage therapists help her through those times, she like to emphasize to clients that it takes a variety of approaches to achieve overall peak wellness, AND that that definition is different for everyone. Alayne will help you define that and get you beyond what you ever thought was possible in your life; inside and outside of Planet Granite.

Having played practically every sport offered in school as a child, Matt was a natural born athlete who thrived at physical activities. But, it wasn’t until he was seven years old that he truly found his passion – in climbing. Quickly excelling in the sport, Matt competed and regularly placed in youth climbing competitions around the U.S., in both bouldering and lead climbing.

Having immersed himself in the competitive climbing arena, Matt was exposed to many coaching techniques and a variety of specialists. Through a combination of personal experience and a personal desire to push harder and crush more routes without injury, Matt naturally made the transition to personal training, becoming an ACE certified Personal Trainer. Matt specializes in working with climbers who want to learn the basic fundamentals of climbing to those trying to push pass their climbing plateaus, with especial focus on preventing injuries,
harnessing power, increasing endurance, and bolstering technique.

Matt started his fitness career to help climbers avoid injuries but also to help them recover from them, all while getting stronger. Whether it be running down Burnside or summiting El Capitan, staying active is a lifestyle and Matt is excited to assist you in achieving your personal training goals.

Amy is an injury prevention specialist working with elite & pro athletes in both running and climbing. Her specialty is transitioning clients from PT to independent fitness, then coaching as needed to improve athletic performance & reduce re-injury risk. She has been a climber for many years. She LOVES her work and it has taken her all over the world! Specializing in injury prevention, Amy spent 4 years traveling and working with some of the world’s fastest athletes. She had the opportunity go to London to work with and watch many of these runners compete at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. She currently works with many talented track hopefuls for the 2016 Olympics (GO USA!).

Amy is a licensed Massage Therapist (OR#19726) specializing in deep tissue work & sports massage. She is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through NCSA. She graduated from Portland State in 2003 after double majoring in Fitness and Health as well as Public Healthcare Administration. She received her Physical Therapists’ Assistant (PTA) degree in 1997 and graduated with Honors.

Lu is a certified STOTT Pilates instructor. STOTT emphasizes how to build the body’s foundational strength first, then building more strength, balance and flexibility upon that foundation. Lu recently graduated from massage therapy school. She will use massage to unravel tight muscles and use pilates to rehab those muscles. Lu specializes in finding imbalances within the body that can create pain, retraining those muscles to find balance and thus helping people find a more pain-free existence.
