Episode 4: The Drop Knee

The drop knee is one of the most effective tools in any climbers kit. This movement helps to extend your reach utilizing body positioning. Understanding how the drop knee works and how to implement it will increase your reach and help you climb more efficiently.

Each week we’ll also provide a drill to help you hone your newly learned skill.

DRILL: Turning

Choose an easy route, boulder problem, or hop onto your gym’s System Board. Every time you move your right hand, turn your right hip into the wall and drop your knee. Every time you move your left hand, turn your left hip into the wall and drop your knee. Make sure to drop your back leg and keep those hips tight into the wall! Practice this all the way up your chosen route.
