Welcome to Planet Granite San Francisco

Located in the heart of the Presidio by the Golden Gate Bridge, PG San Francisco boasts not just amazing climbing and bouldering terrain, but fantastic views across Crissy Field. With 25,000 square feet of climbing, a full fitness and cardio area, two yoga studios and top out boldering, PG San Francisco combines the best of climbing, yoga and fitness.

OUR STORY

SF, our third location, filled a need for our members in the city. We found the perfect spot in the Presidio – gorgeous sweeping views of the SF Bay and green wide open spaces on Crissy Field make for a beautiful backdrop to climbing! Built in 2008 in an old airplane hanger, the gym is in a historic building with a unique layout – it has catwalks that take you to the second story fitness and bouldering, as well as high climbing that juts out of the top allowing for views of Alcatraz. Combined with our two beautiful studios for yoga and fitness, PG San Francisco offers signature variety for climbers, athletes, and yogis.

about me

Jack started climbing in 2013 on the East Coast after spending most of his free time alternating between driving 3+ hours to surf and exploring the green spaces in Maryland. One outdoor climbing session and REI pit stop later, he hit the climbing hard and hasn’t looked back since. From boulders in suburban Maryland to the mountains in Peru, Jack likes to do all things climbing. And roller hockey. Always roller hockey.

about me

Parker was first introduced to climbing in 2014 and has been hooked ever since. His first job out of college was at a climbing and adventure company in Oklahoma, and has since relocated to the Bay Area to pursue his love for recreation and the outdoors. He enjoys bouldering, roped climbing, and more recently sport climbing. When he’s not in the gym he can be found hiking, backpacking, paddle boarding, scuba diving, and traveling.

about me

Jesse has a passion for education, climbing, and being outdoors with friends. He started bouldering indoors in 2007 at The Circuit in Portland, OR, then got hooked on sport climbing in 2012 while living near the golden sandstone cliffs of Taiwan. He loves the mental aspects of climbing, especially learning new ways to function better and push harder on lead. Outside of the gym you can usually find him relaxing at a coffee shop, walking around San Francisco, or hiking and sport climbing in the mountains.

About me

A SF native, Martin found climbing right after high school as something to do other than picking up heavy things and putting them back down. Lifting soon became a chore and climbing became a passion. Although sometimes still found in the weight room, Martin is usually found bouldering in the gym or outside wrestling pebbles.

Skills

Bouldering is my ultimate passion and getting people psyched on it is what I do best! My main priority when first teaching people how to boulder is to get them to fall and spot properly. I love climbing on steep overhangs with big dynamic movement but can also get down with some technical slab. I love working with kids and seeing them progress, it’s one of the best feelings in the world. Other than that, I cant seem to stop training. Whether it be climbing oriented or just overall fitness, I cant get enough!

about me

I love bouldering! if I’m not at the desk I’m probably bouldering. Either that or im in class studying for my prospective major, which is Nuclear Physics. I Love science! If you like science come talk to me and we will be buds (probably). My other hobbies include playing guitar. I LOVE METAL (the kind where the lead singer screams and its incoherently beautiful). But don’t let that fool you! I also like 90’s hip hop and R&B. IN CONCLUSION, seeing as this is the BEST bio on the board there is no reason why you can’t approach me and have a jolly good conversation about all the things mentioned above…or I guess if you have a question about the gear shop….

about me

I became aware of my body after getting hit by a car in 2004 and breaking my shoulder. Shortly after the accident I began physical therapy to improve my mobility and balance, and was also introduced to yoga. I moved to San Francisco in 2009 for college and a friend introduced me to the wonderful world of climbing! I became a member of Planet Granite for about a year but took a break to begin yoga teacher training. I have been teaching yoga since 2011 and came back to Planet Granite after graduating from SF State in 2013, and luckily became an employee for PG in 2014.

about me

Although I’ve always been an outdoor enthusiast, I didn’t discover my love for climbing until moving to Edmonton, AB in Canada. My first brutal Canadian winter drove me indoors to a climbing gym that soon became my second home. I trained on a junior team for 2 years and took numerous trips out to the Rockies, climbing and hiking in places like Canmore, Banff, and Jasper. Eventually I took a long road trip all the way to Squamish, BC, where I climbed my fist big wall. Since moving to the Bay Area, I’ve started to get back into climbing and found a new love for bouldering, both indoors and out. If you want to talk about climbing things, let’s chat!

About me

Born and raised in San Francisco, I discovered my love and passion for climbing here at Planet Granite in 2014! In the gym, you can spot me bouncing around in the bouldering area working on projects, or in the Chamber trying to get over my fear of falling. Outside of the gym, I’m either cycling, dancing, reading or eating. Omnoms! There’s always space for noodles, ice cream and boba!

skills

Endurance of all kinds:

  • Rock climbing: doing laps on the tall walls
  • Cycling: hill reapeats and 100 mile rides

Small pinches or crimps and stemmy problems comes a little natural to me.
