about me

Growing up on a dairy farm, Hillary has never been a stranger to hard work or physical activity. She has participated in sports her entire life, running, basketball, and martial arts being her favorites. While in college, she joined the judo team, and began to discover her passion for human movement.

After graduating, Hillary and her husband moved from the Midwest to California. Shortly after this move she broke her collarbone in a judo practice and started to focus more on weightlifting. Once her collarbone healed she went to her first CrossFit class with her sister. It was love at first sight. Six months later she got her CFL1 and began coaching F10 classes at Planet Granite shortly thereafter.
In the years since, she has continued to grow as a coach and as a teacher. Her main loves are teaching basic gymnastic skills and Olympic lifts to beginners.

Hillary instructs her classes and individual sessions with a strong emphasis on quality of movement. A lift done perfectly at a light weight is far more impressive than a record setting lift done sloppily. While she prefers Olympic lifting and HIIT style workouts, she firmly believes that the best type of exercise is the one you’ll do on a regular basis.

When not in the gym, Hillary enjoys trail running, stand up paddle boarding, reading, and learning new things.

about me

After graduating high school weighing 185 pounds, with a 36” waist, James decided to make a change. It took him a year to get to the low 140s, and then he incorporated weight training to his regime. He saw some great results and got hooked. He became a personal trainer around 2005 to help other people to do what he did. He got into powerlifting in the early 2000s, then road biking, then rock climbing and CrossFit. He competed in the 2008 CrossFit Games, 2010 CrossFit sectionals, and 2011-2013 CrossFit Open.

Today, he is trying to get as strong as humanly possible because he’s realized that the older we get, the harder it is to get stronger or even maintain. He also has a lot of knowledge in counting calories and macronutrients and has been doing it since 2013.
