It enhances physical strength, reduces weaknesses, builds community through team cohesion and also supports and encourages new participants with limited experience and confidence. F10 Fitness classes include skills in gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting and cardio or metabolic conditioning sports. The workouts are conducted in varied methods and times to keep the participant enhancing their general physical preparedness (GPP) and overall fitness.

F10 Fitness

What is F10 Fitness?
F10 fitness is a program created for the climber as well as the fitness enthusiast. It is programmed as a supplement to your current training routine whether it be climbing, running, backpacking, or whatever your choice activity. F10 focuses on strength training, core strength and control, power, speed, agility, endurance, mobility/flexibility, joint stability and functional movement with the use of periodized weightlifting, body weight movements, running, rowing and odd object resistance training. F10 fitness classes are programmed and led by a qualified instructor with HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) lasting 10-25 minutes as well as strength and mobility work at the beginning of each class.

F10 Basics

This class if for anyone who would like to give F10 a try without needing to take the prerequisite F10 fundamentals course. It will consist of mostly body weight movements with some weight training. Any body weight or weightlifting movements will be scaled to the basic movement for those unfamiliar with specific exercises while still making it a challenging workout no matter the experience of the participant. The class will consist of more detailed instruction and breakdown of each movement.

F10 20-20-20

This class is focused specifically for the climber as well as the fitness enthusiast who would like to gain more mobility and body weight strength and control. The class is broken down into 20 minutes of mobility, flexibility, and balance training. The next 20 minutes is body weight strengthening, targeted to gymnastics type movements such as ring exercises, handstand progressions, palette movements, and midline accessory strength and stability. The last 20 minutes will focus on aerobic training using running, rowing, box jumps, and various other movements to train the cardiovascular system. If you are looking for a class that will help to improve your climbing and overall fitness, this is it! No fitness background required. Anyone is welcome to attend.

F10 Alpine

This class will focus on helping climbers and alpinists build muscular endurance for their next big adventure. The programming incorporates long, grinding intervals as opposed to the HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) typically seen in F10 Fitness and Basics classes. Workouts will be 30 to 40 minutes in length with light loads to help build both cardiovascular and muscular endurance. F10 Alpine will help you climb longer, build strength, and stay light. No fitness background is required, and anyone is welcome to attend!

F10 Fundamentals (One-time course)

Our Fundamentals course is for the beginner weight lifter who has little to no experience in weight training, body weight movements and/or Olympic lifts. Fundamentals is required to attend the F10: Fitness and Strength classes unless otherwise evaluated by our fitness manager, Hillary. Planet Granite members and guests are welcome to take F10: 20/20/20, F10: Basics, or F10: Alpine classes without attending a Fundamentals course.

There are two options for Fundamentals training:

In the Fundamentals course you will learn lifts such as back squat, front squat, clean & jerk, snatch, kettlebell swings as well as body weight movements such as handstands and pull-ups. This is a 5 hour course offered once per month. Pre-registration is required and you must attend the entire course in order to start the F10: Fitness and Strength classes.*

2) Attend F10 Basics classes three times per week for two weeks, and then do a one on one training session (1.5 hours or less) to learn the Olympic lifts.*

about me

My lifelong passion for fitness started at a young age when I revolved my life around break-dancing and gymnastics. Growing up I was constantly getting into trouble, then after graduating high school, I found a positive outlet for my energy by working out at the gym. Through my in-gym circuit training, I discovered CrossFit and became highly interested in the sport because it favored my training style and included a focus in speed, strength, and muscle endurance. I found myself spending more time at the gym than I was at home so it was natural for me to find work within the fitness industry.

Over the past decade, I’ve acquired my National College of Exercise Professionals Certification and CrossFit Level 1/Gymnastics Certification. To further develop my skills as a personal trainer, I’ve worked at noteable gyms including Club One, Smash Gyms, and Planet Granite. I also provide private training and group lessons for Planet Granite and local corporate businesses.

You can find me in the fitness area of Planet Granite lifting heavy to break new PR and helping our members meet their fitness goals. My friendly, energetic, and enthusiastic personality as a personal trainer keeps me open to help those willing with their physical training. I will gladly share my extensive knowledge in strength and conditioning, body recomposition, and nutrition.

JAMES CEBEDO

Instructor

about me

After graduating high school weighing 185 pounds, with a 36” waist, James decided to make a change. It took him a year to get to the low 140s, and then he incorporated weight training to his regime. He saw some great results and got hooked. He became a personal trainer around 2005 to help other people to do what he did. He got into powerlifting in the early 2000s, then road biking, then rock climbing and Crossfit. He’s competed in the 2008 Crossfit Games, 2010 Crossfit sectionals, and 2011-2013 Crossfit Open.

Today, he is trying to get as strong as humanly possible because he’s realized that the older we get, the harder it is to get stronger or even maintain. He also has a lot of knowledge in counting calories and macronutrients and has been doing it since 2013.

Extended Notes:

Caleb believes that in health and fitness, as in life, there are many paths to the same goal and considers dogma to be the product of ignorance. – He believes that the elimination of pain can be more empowering than becoming physically powerful. – He is grateful for the work and guidance of and attributes much of his current training philosophy to: Greg Everett, Eric Cressey, Erwan Le Corre, and Ron Hruska. – Caleb scored in the 98th and 99th percentile on his law school and business school entrance exams, respectively. Instead of pursuing those career paths, he is finding fulfillment helping others pursue their health and fitness aspirations. – A long-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Caleb recently placed second in his division at the 2014 U.S. Open. – A recreational freediver, Caleb holds a static apnea (breath hold) personal record of 4 minutes and 31 seconds.

“Training, conditioning, and rehabilitation should have purpose, precision, and progression. Our sedentary society instinctively knows we need to be more physical. We even punish our bodies with activities, exercise, and athletics as a penance for our sloth. Nevertheless, the assumption that difficulty will produce fitness is misguided at best. Exercise and rehabilitation professionals should focus on activities that accelerate practical achievement, not just on difficult activities.” – Gray Cook
